The test has 3 (three) sections. The total duration of the test is 120 minutes. PwD candidates will have 13 minutes and 20 seconds extra time for each section.

The time allotted to each section is 40 minutes (53 minutes and 20 seconds for PwD candidates). As soon as you start answering a section the clock (displayed on the top right corner of the screen) will start. On completion of 40 minutes, the clock will stop, the particular section will be locked and the responses to the section will be auto-submitted. You will then need to move to the next section and start answering the next set of questions. The same process will be repeated for all three sections. On submission of all three sections, a summary of your answers will be displayed on your screen.

CAT 2021 Exam Pattern

CAT is a digital or Computer Based Test (CBT); not an Internet-Based Test (IBT); that is, a candidate will not take the examination on an internet site. Instead of reading the questions in a paper booklet and darkening the ovals on the answer-sheet, a candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option. There will have three sections:
  • First Section: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
  • Second Section: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
  • Third Section: Quantitative Ability

Time Given: 120 Minutes (40 minutes each for three sections).

Question Types: MCQ and Question Answer

Section No of Questions Total Marks
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension 34 102
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning 32 96
Quantitative Ability 34 102

Marking Scheme

For questions other than MCQs, 3 marks are assigned for ‘correct answer’ and no marks for an incorrect answer or no attempt.
  • 3 marks for each correct answer.
  • An incorrect answer fetches -1.
  • No marks for unattempted questions.

Important Notes

For rough work, you will be allowed to use the writing pad provided to you. Please note that only one writing pad will be provided to you. Write your name and registration number clearly at the designated place on the writing pad. Return the writing pad with all pages intact to the invigilator at the end of the test.

You will not be allowed to use any calculator or any other computing machine or device. An on-screen calculator will be provided, which can be used for computing.
